PhD in Health and Biomedical Sciences (MHBS)

The goal of the Health and Biomedical Sciences program is to produce world class professionals, with competence for academia, research and industries. Emphasis shall be on linkage to society and to the local industry, and scientific and technological response to local needs.

The ultimate goal of this programme is the education and training of biomedical and health scientists, with a focus on understanding the basic and applied aspects of global health and biomedical sciences. The programme will identify and absorb the best brains from the region and envisage using these brains to produce a pool of world-class creative experts who are able to generate novel solutions to today’s societal problems and open new avenues for technological innovations in the region. It is the expectation of this programme that graduates will take up high-level careers in innovation, research for development, industry and health. Furthermore, the programme is tuned to respond to and make impact on societal needs.

Entry Requirements

Candidates to be admitted into the PhD in Global Health and Biomedical Sciences must have obtained :

  1. Possession of a second class Bachelor’s degree in related biomedical sciences, with at least a GPA of 3.0/5.0 or its equivalent in an appropriate area of study from an accredited university or similar institution of higher learning and,
  2. Possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited university or similar institution of higher learning with a minimum GPA of 3.5/5.0 and at least an average of “B” in the relevant subjects or field of specialization and,
  3. Applicants for admission into PhD programmes MUST have at least average of “B” in Master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university or similar institution of higher learning.

Mode of Delivery

Blended mode or hybrid mode whereby a portion of the traditional face-to-face instruction is mixed with web-based online instruction.

  4. Validate and verify through research quality and productivity in industry and technology.
