Elsie Somi Kaaya is an Assistant Lecturer in the School of Computational and Communication Science and Engineering at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST). She holds a MSc in Information and Communication Science and Engineering and a B.Eng. in Information Systems and Network Engineering, she brings a wealth of experience spanning various fields.
Elsie has dedicated the past six years to working in software development, information systems design and management, embedded systems design and development, and data science. Throughout her career, she has spearheaded initiatives focused on improving healthcare accessibility and enhancing security measures.
Notable among her accomplishments is the development of a mobile application that utilizes animation to aid children in learning fundamental mathematical calculations. Additionally, she has successfully designed and implemented a real-time embedded system to bolster security measures. Elsie's commitment to healthcare advancement is evident in her creation of a mobile application tailored for Rhesus-negative patients, streamlining the process of accessing blood donations.
In her most recent project, she delved into the study of knowledge-seeking behavior among Tanzanian pregnant women. Drawing upon her expertise, she developed a mobile expert system to address the challenges they encounter. Her specialization and research interests encompass machine learning, health data science, health systems development, and product management.
